BYPOL Reports on Purges in Belarusian KGB

The initiative of the Belarusian security forces, has reported on the start of purges among the employees of the State Security Committee of Belarus.

BYPOL notes that purges have begun among employees who, in the summer, during the collection of signatures for the nomination of presidential candidates, put their signatures not for Alyaksandr Lukashenka but another candidate, Belsat reports

“The issue of dismissal of those who had signed for alternative candidates came up earlier, but due to the time pressure and staff shortages against the background of constant protests, it did not come to extreme measures”

Pensioners, suspected of disloyalty to Lukashenka’s regime, were also affected by purges.

The list of pensioners to be removed from the military registry of the KGB and placed on a common basis in the district military registration offices was signed by the head of the KGB, Ivan Tsertsel. In addition, such pensioners are taken off the registry of the KGB polyclinic and their passes to medical institutions are cancelled, sending them to the polyclinic at the place of their residence.

Even ex-KGB head Uladzimir Matskevich and ex-Presidential Security Service head Yury Barodzich were among those deprived of privileges.
